Isle of Wight holiday shopp
ing can be a pleasant and fulfilling experience. Aside from the usual high street chains, you’ll find local independent stores that offer a unique selection of products made on the island.
Shops and galleries stock many locally made art pieces and craft products. The Isle of Wight has inspired a great deal of art; it’s thought that Dickens wrote part of David Copperfield here.
Alleyways off the main shopping precinct in Newport play host to many interesting specialist shops.
Amble along the old Victorian shopping arcade in Ryde or visit Cowes for nautical souvenirs. Then pop into the delightful Ma Petite France in Ryde where you can find an assortment of goods from around Europe, including antique furniture, children’s toys, pottery and French lingerie.
In Godshill you’ll find Daisy Daisy, a quirky store selling unique Fairtrade goods such as jewellery, stationery, children’s clothes and skincare products.
For a wholly different kind of shopping experience, drop into the Isle of Wight Studio Glass. The studio sells hand-made glass products and offers glass blowing sessions so you can have a go at making your own work of art. Fired Art in Ryde offers locally made ceramics and jewellery and gives you the chance to make and paint your own ceramic wares.
